BSE, Angel One, capital market shares in focus after latest SEBI circular on CAS

Market regulator SEBI may propose certain changes in the methodology for settlement prices of derivative contracts and a consultation paper for the same will be issued in about a week. Shares of BSE Ltd., Angel One Ltd., and other capital market linked stocks gained up to 5% on Friday, September 4, after the latest circular by market regulator Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) with regards to the Closing Auction Session. Shares of Angel One gained up to 7% on Friday, followed by those of BSE, which gained over 4,5%.

Both Angel One and BSE are among the top three gainers on the Nifty 500 on Friday. Shares of Groww and Motilal Oswal gained between 1% to 2%. In its circular on Thursday night, SEBI said that it will review the settlement price methodology for Futures & Options (F&O) contracts a month after the rollout of the Closing Auction Session (CAS).

SEBI said that it received feedback and suggestions from various market participants and stakeholders from multiple channels, including social media and media platforms. Among the key issues raised in the feedback included the determination of settlement prices of derivatives contracts on expiry based on the closing price determined through CAS. Based on this, SEBI may propose certain changes in the methodology for settlement prices of derivative contracts and a consultation paper for the same will be issued in about a week.

In an interaction with CNBC-TV18 on Thursday, BSE MD & CEO Sundararaman Ramamurthy said that they received feedback from dealers on CAS, which included delinking the F&O expiry and CAS, implementing CAS in a gradual manner and not allowing order modifications during CAS. Ramamurthy said that they are collating all the feedback and will soon present the same to the regulator. Shares of BSE ended 4.4% higher on Thursday after Ramamurthy's remarks at ₹3,306.1.

The stock is down nearly 9% in the last one month, trimming its year-to-date advance to 26%. Shares of Angel One ended 2.4% higher on Thursday at ₹285.95. The stock is down 5% in the last one month, trimming its 2026 gains to 21%.
